Why Slab-Rate Electricity Makes EV Charging Calculation Complex

In India, electricity is not billed at a flat rate. It uses a "telescopic slab" system. For example, your first 100 units might cost ₹4/unit, but units from 101-200 cost ₹5.5/unit, and units above 200 cost ₹7/unit.

When you buy an EV, you instantly add 150-300 units to your monthly consumption. This doesn't just add new units; it pushes those new units into the highest, most expensive pricing slab your DISCOM has.

For a heavy EV user, the cost per km can double purely because of the slab effect. If you drive extensively, look into getting a separate, flat-rate EV charging meter if your state allows it.
